Description
My first sighting of this marvelous bird was on a volunteer’s day out at Carlton Marshes. I was amazed by the size of its wingspan as it swooped over the reedbeds. I wouldn’t have know what bird it was, so I was glad to be accompanied by a warden who told us it was a female marsh harrier and much bigger than the male.
This original reduction linocut is from a small edition of 19. The reduction method (my favourite technique) uses a single piece of lino to produce a multi-coloured print. The lino is gradually cut away as each layer is printed and the image emerges. Sometimes, only a very small printable area remains for the final, darkest tone. As the block is essentially destroyed during the process, a reduction print can never be reprinted.
Print size 175 x 265mm. Hand printed on Somerset Satin 250g paper using a small relief press. Due to the nature of the printmaking process minor variations can occur between prints, making each one a truly unique piece of artwork.
Each print is numbered, titled and signed at the bottom and mounted in a neutral colour to fit a standard 12 x 16″ frame. The artwork will be shipped flat protected by strong cardboard packaging and sent by tracked mail.
