I’ve wanted to create a print of seagulls descending on a ploughed field for a long time, but have never quite managed to capture the right image. When I came across this scene,  I think the tractor driver probable thought I’d gone mad, as I quickly pulled over in my car and a ran up and down the field with my camera. No time for a sketch this time.

This original reduction linocut is from a small edition of 20. The reduction method (my favourite technique) uses a single piece of lino to produce a multi-coloured print. The lino is gradually cut away as each layer is printed and the image emerges. Sometimes, only a very small printable area remains for the final, darkest tone. As the block is essentially destroyed during the process, a reduction print can never be reprinted.

Print size 270 x 180mm. Hand printed on Somerset Satin 250g paper using a small relief press. Due to the nature of the printmaking process minor variations can occur between prints, making each one a truly unique piece of artwork.

Each print is numbered, titled and signed at the bottom, mounted in a neutral colour and sealed in cellophane to keep it clean. The mounted work will fit into a standard 12 x 16″ frame. The artwork will be packaged in a sturdy cardboard envelope and shipped by tracked mail.
