Description

I’m always drawn to the sea, whatever the weather. This print is based on a scene I sketched one sunny morning in Saltdean, near Brighton. The water was quite calm and as it washed up on the beach it created these wonderful ripples in the pebbles.

This original reduction linocut is from a small edition of 18. The reduction method (my favourite technique) uses a single piece of lino to produce a multi-coloured print. The lino is gradually cut away as each layer is printed and the image emerges. Sometimes, only a very small printable area remains for the final, darkest tone. As the block is essentially destroyed during the process, a reduction print can never be reprinted.

Print size 270 x 180mm. Hand printed on Somerset Satin 250g paper using a small relief press. Due to the nature of the printmaking process minor variations can occur between prints, making each one a truly unique piece of artwork.

Each print is numbered, titled and signed at the bottom, mounted in a neutral colour and sealed in cellophane to keep it clean. The mounted work will fit into a standard 12 x 16″ frame. The artwork will be packaged in a sturdy cardboard envelope and shipped by tracked mail.
