Description
I watched this lamb take its first faltering steps in the early morning sunlight. The sun cast such wonderful shadows that I just had to try and capture it in a linocut. I’ve wanted to create a print with a limited grey palette for a while and this seemed the perfect opportunity.
After the first very pale grey layer, the sheep and her lamb began to immerge. I was delighted after the second layer and almost stopped there, with one person describing them as having a ‘lost in the cloud ‘ look. In the end I decided to print a third layer on some of the prints to give them a bit more definition, so there is now the option of buying two versions of the prints, either after two layers or three. I’d love to hear which you prefer, I honestly can’t choose.
This original reduction linocut is from a limited edition of 13. The reduction method (my favourite technique) uses a single piece of lino to produce a multi-coloured print. The lino is gradually cut away as each layer is printed and the image emerges. I have used what remained of the lino to print thank you notes to include with orders for the print. If you are buying this as a gift, perhaps for Mother’s Day or Easter, I am very happy to ship it direct to the recipient and include a message from you. Just put the details in the order notes.
Print size 120 x 120mm. Hand printed on Somerset Satin 250g paper using a small relief press. Due to the nature of the printmaking process minor variations can occur between prints, making each one a truly unique piece of artwork. Each print is numbered, titled and signed at the bottom.
