Description

Knettishall Heath has been the background to many family adventures over the years, so I thought it was about time it featured in one of my prints. I’ve fond memories of my own children playing in the shallow water created by the weir or digging in the sandy mud. It’s so delightful now to take my grandchildren there and watch them enjoying exactly the same games. Hence the title, ‘Holding Back the Years’, plus I also love the song by Simply Red. The reflections on the water are different every time we go there, though I’ve rarely seen the blue of the sky reflected in quite the way they were on this particular day.

This original reduction linocut is from a limited edition of only 11. The reduction method (my favourite technique) uses a single piece of lino to produce a multi-coloured print. The lino is gradually cut away as each layer is printed on top of the previous one and the image gradually emerges. Sometimes, only a very small printable area remains for the final, darkest tone. As the block is essentially destroyed during the process, a reduction print can never be reprinted.

Print size 305 x 203mm, handprinted using a small press on Somerset Satin 250gsm paper. Due to the nature of the printmaking process minor variations can occur between prints, making each one a truly unique piece of artwork. Each print is numbered, titled and signed at the bottom. The artwork will be  shipped flat protected by strong cardboard packaging and sent by tracked mail.
