Description

The fields round here in the Brecks are perfect for growing potatoes in wide deep furrows. From a footpath known locally as Devil’s Dyke the lines create almost abstract looking patterns across the fields and off into the distance. I created this print from sketches I made while sitting in a sheltered spot out of the wind one sunny April afternoon.

Original reduction linocut, from a very small variable edition of 10. The reduction method (my favourite technique) uses a single piece of lino to produce a multi-coloured print. The lino is gradually cut away as each layer is printed and the image emerges. Sometimes, only a very small printable area remains for the final, darkest tone. As the block is essentially destroyed during the process, a reduction print can never be reprinted.

Print size 270 x 180mm. Hand printed on Somerset Satin 250g paper using a small relief press. Due to the nature of the printmaking process minor variations can occur between prints, making each one a truly unique piece of artwork.
