Description

Grey herons have fascinated me since I first saw a picture of one in a book as a child. I don’t think I’d ever actually seen one until I moved to East Anglia as an adult. I often see them now, flying over the reeds or sitting in the water meadows opposite the house. This print was inspired by one that flew in front of the moon while I was out walking my dog early one morning.

This reduction print is a variable edition because there are a number of different versions with various coloured reeds, some of which there are only one copy of, such as the metallic gold and copper.  Please look at the photographs associated with each edition. The reduction method (my favourite technique) uses a single piece of lino to produce a multi-coloured print. The lino is gradually cut away as each layer is printed and the image emerges. Sometimes, only a very small printable area remains for the final, darkest tone. As the block is essentially destroyed during the process, a reduction print can never be reprinted.

Print size 152 x  203mm, from a limited edition of 19. Hand printed on Somerset Satin 250g paper using a small relief press. Due to the nature of the printmaking process minor variations can occur between prints, making each one a truly unique piece of artwork. Each print is numbered, titled and signed at the bottom and mounted in a neutral colour to fit a standard 10 x 12″ frame.  The artwork will be  shipped flat protected by strong cardboard packaging and sent by tracked mail.
