Description
This print is a quite different style for me. Its inspired by an old, overexposed photograph of a friend’s house as shown on their deeds, long before it became the lovely home it is now. Something about the rather blurry image appealed to me as soon as I saw it, even though it was lacking any detail. I’ve used artistic licence to picture the old barns, I know the house (Mole End) well, but it was quite hard to see it in the old photograph.
I was originally just going to make a single block, black and white print, but as I started drawing out my design I could see how it might lend itself to being black, white and grey. I was delighted to discover it works as both, a two-layer limited edition reduction and a single block, black and white linocut – hence the to two different prints.
Each version measures 260mm x 175mm, although the black and white one could be framed slightly narrower. The three colour version (black, grey and white) is from a limited edition of 12 prints and is printed on Somerset Satin 250gsm paper, whereas the single colour one is an open edition and printed on Hosho Japanese paper.
Each print is hand printed by me on Somerset Satin 250g paper using Cranfield Safewash oil-based ink on a small relief press. Due to the nature of the printmaking process minor variations can occur between prints, making each one a truly unique piece of artwork. Each print is sold mounted in a neutral colour to fit a standard 12 x 16″ frame and will be shipped flat protected by strong cardboard packaging and sent by tracked mail.
