Description
On a cold, dry winter’s day on Cromer beach, I was mesmerised by the wonderful reflections created by the groynes. I’ve previously created a print of the resident cormorants on the navigation guide, but this time my challenge was to include the whole scene. This meant leaving my comfort zone and printing larger than I normally do, creating various difficulties to overcome in my tiny studio.
This original reduction linocut is from a very small limited edition of 8. The reduction method (my favourite technique) uses a single piece of lino to produce a multi-coloured print, in this instance using nine layers to create the final image. As the block is essentially destroyed during the process, a reduction print can never be reprinted.
This is one of my largest prints. The actual image measures approximately A3, 405mm x 305mm. Hand printed on Somerset Satin 250g paper using Cranfield Safewash oil-based ink on a small relief press. Due to the nature of the printmaking process minor variations can occur between prints, making each one a truly unique piece of artwork.
Each print is numbered, titled and signed at the bottom. The artwork is unmounted, allowing the buyer to choose how it is mounted. Due to its size the print is shipped rolled on a strong cardboard tube, by tracked mail.
