Description
A soon as I saw this view, with the sun sparkling on the sea and the swathes of pink thrift growing on the clifftop, I knew I wanted to capture it in a print. I was lucky enough to be invited to stay near Kingstone in south Devon by painter and fellow printmaker Maggie Smith. We spent our time enjoying artist enrichment days, taking in the magnificent scenery, such as this view at Thurlestone, and discussing our creative practice.
This original reduction linocut is from a limited edition of only 12. The reduction method (my favourite technique) uses a single piece of lino to produce a multi-coloured print. The lino is gradually cut away as each layer is printed and the image emerges. Sometimes, only a very small printable area remains for the final, darkest tone. As the block is essentially destroyed during the process, a reduction print can never be reprinted
Print size 305 x 203mm, handprinted using a small press on Somerset Satin 250gsm paper. Due to the nature of the printmaking process minor variations can occur between prints, making each one a truly unique piece of artwork. Each print is numbered, titled and signed at the bottom. The artwork will be shipped flat protected by strong cardboard packaging and sent by tracked mail.
