Description
I have been using this print as demonstration piece at various events this year, which is why there are a number of different versions available. I originally created it following an unforgettable trip to Uganda in 2012 with my daughter Emma. It was inspired by two children literary ‘jumping for joy’ trying to reach a balloon. I will be donating all proceeds to the charity, Wagobera, established by Emma to support the educational costs of deserving children in a small area of rural Uganda.
Emma first visited the country during her gap year when she was 18 and volunteering in a rural primary school. One particular boy, Chris Wagobera, was top of his class, but his family could not afford to send him to secondary school. Emma decided that she would raise the money to enable him to continue his studies and in 2018 he actually achieved his dream of becoming a doctor. 20 years later the small charity which she established is still enabling children like Chris to continue their education. Because of Emma many children in that poor area of Uganda have gone on to achieve professions that would be unthinkable without her ongoing support.
This original multi-block linocut consists for three blocks, although for version 1 and 2 I used just two blocks. It is handprinted using a small relief press on Hosho Japanese paper sized approximately 140 x 200mm. The actual printed area is 122 x 152mm.
Due to the nature of the printmaking process minor variations can occur between prints, making each one a truly unique piece of artwork. Each print is titled and signed at the bottom. The artwork will beĀ shipped flat (unframed) and sent by second class Royal Mail or by international standard mail..
