Description

This postcard sized print was inspired by the bumper crop of fly agaric this October. Maybe its due to the natural phenomenon known as a mast year, which I thought referred to trees, but then its known that there is a connectedness between trees and fungi. Their vivid red really does look like something out of a fairy tale.

This original reduction linocut is from a limited edition of 20. The reduction method (my favourite technique) uses a single piece of lino to produce a multi-coloured print. The lino is gradually cut away as each layer is printed on top of the previous one and the image gradually emerges. Sometimes, only a very small printable area remains for the final, darkest tone. As the block is essentially destroyed during the process, a reduction print can never be reprinted.

Print size 150mm x 100mm, handprinted using a small relief press on Somerset Satin 250gsm paper. Due to the nature of the printmaking process minor variations can occur between prints, making each one a truly unique piece of artwork. Each print is numbered, titled and signed at the bottom. The artwork is unmounted and will be shipped flat (unframed).
