Holkham beach is the most unspoilt and beautiful stretch of sand that I have ever visited. It’s the sort of place that lifts the soul and sweeps away any cobwebs. It’s a treat for dog walkers and birdwatchers too. Every time I’ve visited lately, I’ve seen these delightful oystercatchers among with many other species. The apparent simplicity of this print captures the vast expanse of sand and sky, with the sea way off in the distance. https://www.holkham.co.uk/nature-reserve-beach/nature-reserve/introduction
This is original reduction linocut is from a small edition of 20. The reduction method (my favourite technique) uses a single piece of lino to produce a multi-coloured print. The lino is gradually cut away as each layer is printed and the image emerges. Sometimes, only a very small printable area remains for the final, darkest tone. As the block is essentially destroyed during the process, a reduction print can never be reprinted.
Print size 270 x 180mm. Hand printed on Somerset Satin 250g paper using a small relief press. Due to the nature of the printmaking process minor variations can occur between prints, making each one a truly unique piece of artwork.
