Description
I’ve returned to one of my favourite scenes with this print of a barn owl flying over the reeds at Redgrave and Lopham Fens. It’s another reduction linocut, this time from a limited edition of 16. The reduction method (my favourite technique) uses a single piece of lino to produce a multi-coloured print. The lino is gradually cut away as each layer is printed on top of the previous one and the image gradually emerges. Sometimes, only a very small printable area remains for the final, darkest tone. In this case just the eyes and the darkest markings on the head. As the block is essentially destroyed during the process, a reduction print can never be reprinted.
Print size 203 x 305mm, handprinted using a small relief press on Somerset Satin 250gsm paper. Due to the nature of the printmaking process minor variations can occur between prints, making each one a truly unique piece of artwork. Each print is numbered, titled and signed at the bottom. The artwork will be shipped flat (unframed) protected by strong cardboard packaging and sent by tracked mail.
