Description
Oystercatchers are one of my favourite birds, they’re so distinctive and amusing to watch as they strut along the shore line. The first time I saw them was at Holkham beach, but I’ve since seen and heard them flying round here. This print was inspired by those very birds amongst the shallow waves at Holkham Beach.
This original reduction linocut is from a limited edition of only 12. The reduction method (my favourite technique) uses a single piece of lino to produce a multi-coloured print. The lino is gradually cut away as each layer is printed and the image emerges. Sometimes, only a very small printable area remains for the final, darkest tone. As the block is essentially destroyed during the process, a reduction print can never be reprinted.
Print size 305 x 203mm, handprinted using a small press on Somerset Satin 250gsm paper. Due to the nature of the printmaking process minor variations can occur between prints, making each one a truly unique piece of artwork. Each print is numbered, titled and signed at the bottom. The artwork will be shipped flat protected by strong cardboard packaging and sent by tracked mail.
